Oooo! This is so neat! A droid app that has practical use- that is what I’m TALKIN ABOUT! Dragons are practical I bet you didn’t know that! They fly and have fire why wouldn’t they have practicality? The app is called “Dragon Go!” in some ways it is a virtual assistant it uses your voice and will provide you with any questions you may have on anything you ask it.

Demands or requests you take your pick and tell your Dragon “Make reservation for Artichoke Café tonight at 8pm”.. BAAM! Confirm your reservation in Open Table app which is available with the Dragon Go app (and anything else you may want or need).

Dragon Go droid app is great because it gives YOU the USER the CHOICE as to what you would like to use and how you would like your information to be displayed. While the app searches for your information you can have it displayed by horizontally and choose the apps that you want it to come up in.

In other words instead of using the Google app as the default search browser once Dragon Go searches you can go back and forth between Wikipedia, news outlets etc in order to gather information.

The end of 2011 and the beginning or 2012 have been pretty big in the android sphere. AT&T – Denied The best news for those of us that are using T-mobile was the non sale to ATT. During my time on ATT there always seemed to be a billing error. I know that not everyone has the same bad experience I had with them but I do not wish to return. ATT was also the last company to roll out android phones, the last to let you download apps from Amazon, and during my time there they would never unlock my phone so that I could change out my sim card when I was traveling to escape the high cost of calling when overseas. Things may have changed; I have many people I know in my area who get terrible coverage out here in the southwest though. That is still the same.

Googlrola

Elsewhere, there is still the sale of Motorola to Google. This was approved by the boards of both companies. WE have yet to hear what the US Justice department feels about the sale though, like the sale of T-mobile to ATT they could feel that it leaves the market with too little competition and weigh in against the sale. It looks like the whole point of Google making the purchase is to get the patents that are owned by Motorola. This would give them access to more than 17,000 patents that they may well need in the ever present legal battles with Apple.

Apple Topples – Samsung Rules

Another big news item to end 2011, Apple was no longer the best selling phone for the massive holiday sales season. The honors for the number one selling phone this Christmas season went to Samsung with the Galaxy S II. What does this mean for Apple? They fell from grace once before, will it happen again.

Closed IOS versus (mostly) Open Android

The closed platform of IOS keeps users safe, gives them a consistent user experience across all of their devices and their apps, but it also limits how useful the device can be. Apple has taken the most powerful mobile device ever created and effectively hobbled it. This has given android device makers a chance to challenge the Apple dominance. Androids abilities will soon far outpace those of IOS. Already Android has far more useful apps created as opposed to IOS. The most popular IOS downloads are games, and the phone itself is controlled by a jukebox application on from the computer. Nothing wrong with that but it does limit the things that developers can do for the Apple. It was hoped by many developers that the SDK released by apple would address some of those concerns but it was unfortunately sorely lacking in allowing increased functionality. So Apple will begin to languish just as the Android platform begins to really pick up steam.

The Future?

I feel that 2012 will be the year that Android truly dominates in the phone market. The release of ICS 4.0 brings the OS now on par with IOS. As they release software upgrades in smaller more incremental steps, new functions are added more quickly and the real holdup is often waiting for the carriers and the manufacturers to push out the software upgrades to the customers’ devices.

Although not technically an App for Android, google voice can be used with your phone. This is a great way to mask your phone number if you are not comfortable giving it out to everyone.

If you are not familiar with Google Voice, you can sign up for the service through your Google account. You will be given a phone number which you can use as your primary number if you wish. As with many VOIP services, you can use it to make outbound calls from your computer, but you can also do so much more!

You can send and receive SMS messages although not with photos, you can buy credits to make phone calls around the country or the world, the rates are pretty good too! The strongest point in favor of Google Voice is the ability to give out your number to others and be able to route the incoming calls how you like to. If you are avoiding a group of people Just set that group so that all incoming calls from them go straight to voicemail!

Anyway there are so many features and uses for this program you just need to try it out for yourself and see how it can help you and your business.

Google Android news, now that Android devices have been on the market for a while, there is now an opportunity to start researching and see the impact in which they are having. Cost is the biggest item in which is researched how much is Android making and the amount in comparison to Apple IPhones.

The results

The study indicated that Android hardware failures were more common than Apple’s iPhones as well as BlackBerry phones. When I read that I was like W.T.F they are all cell phones they all break I swear I heard someone in the a coffee shop the other day say she had her eighth iPhone in a year! Then this, oh come on you gotta be kidding me. But apparently not as a whole population the stats are in. Android cell phones have blown up the market largely in part because some models are made so cheaply, which in turn has brought more manufactures on board to produce. Google Android boom came from this!

What does this mean? The impact…

Android had definitely brought the smart phone to the masses but as it was indicated it comes with a price tag. There is no free lunch and everything in life is a tradeoff. I personally love my G1 (ancient I know) I admit I have dropped it one to many times, the text is questionable at times so much so, I want to throw my phone at a wall. But overall it rocks, like having a family member you love them and they are awesome but sometimes just no bueno!

Ultimately Android will take over the world (aka Pinky and the Brain)

Apple had a few roll outs before Android dropped their droid bombs so there was some time to work on glitches. As with technology in general the first few generations usually need major tweaking but as time goes on, the tweaking becomes minor. Just give it a few generations and it is going to get even better-some could call that love.

Emoticon so common to us now can’t help but wonder how it all came to be. The evolution of how these faces in our text messages came about is pretty interesting. Now with technology that is super advanced how does one convey the nonverbal communication which typically is eighty percent of how we humans read one another? Like anything else it evolves, but somehow, some way us humans find a way to make it work. We are known for our “work around”.

You may ponder and hypothesize that in the early nineteen nineties when email was just starting to become big there were smiley faces and people just started using them. At least that was my vague forecast which was so off the mark it would not win an “E” for effort.

Interestingly enough President Lincoln is credited for starting the fad. I was pleasantly surprised in that Lincoln is definitely one of my favorite historical figures. It was a speech he gave in 1862 (definitely not the early nineteen nineties) in the speech he used winking face as we now know it today. This is argued by many in that it was simply a typo-my conspiracy side of me says he had it all planned out

Eventually in the seventies there was a computer scientist from Carnegie Mellon University who first proposed using a brackets, colon and hyphen as way to introduce emotion to text. This is the man that brought it all home to where we are now. Eventually AOL, Google, mobile phones, email, etc make the faces for us and seem to be much more detailed along with more variety.

But don’t forget that smiley face from the seventies-the big yellow one peace and love. Although it would make sense that this face evolved out of the emoticons, it actually evolved separately. Two brothers in Spain saw the marketing potential behind this and made millions soon it would be adopted into the hippie movement associated with drugs and rock and roll. Maintaining that reputation the early nineties hit (pun intended) the acid movement began using the same smiley face.

Did you know that you can now shop for all your new android phone apps over at Amazon.com? The Amazon app store has everything you will find you will find at the Google app store, yet they are really laid out better and easier to browse than they are at Google.

One great reason for shopping at Amazon is that you get to download a paid app for free every day.  Some are great, some not so much, but it’s a great way to check out some apps you may not have thought to look at any other way.

Another great feature of shopping for your apps at Amazon is that you can test them out right on your computer if you are shopping for your home PC. I like this as it allows me to see much more of the apps available than what I can find from my phone screen.

I also love the Amazon user reviews. As they do for all products Amazon sells, you can find out how other people that have downloaded apps you find interesting felt about that app.

In order to download apps from the Amazon App store you will first need to install an app that will let you install apps on your phone from Amazon. You may need to enable your phone to install apps from outside of the Google market, this is a simple process and Amazon will give you directions to walk you through the steps in short order. Once you have installed the Amazon app loader you can go back and disable the feature again to protect your phone.

So I urge you to check out the Amazon App Store as a new source for your Android Phone Apps. I think you will find the store pretty much of a refreshing change for the normal method of downloading apps.

Google’s Android OS has changed the playing field of smart phones. More and more smart phone users are being drawn to this operating system due to its wide diversity of android applications. In many ways, the apps that a smart phone is loaded with can define that smart phone and what it is capable of.

It is not surprising then, that people are flocking to the operating system that has the most apps and more importantly the most useful apps. One of the reasons that Google’s apps are so popular that they are developed by an open source method. What that means is that everyone has access to the source code and anyone can alter the app. In effect, the entire community of Android users are developing its apps as opposed to the small groups of professional software designers that other companies use.

This different development process has a dramatic effect on the apps that are put forth. You have probably heard of this app before. Shazam allows you can find out the title album and artist of any song that is being played, whether you are listening to the radio in the car, or are at a bar cruising the local talent. Shazam is a perfect for music lovers!

Bar Code Scanner
As the name would imply, the Barcode Scanner app can scan barcodes. Apart from being a great party trick, the Barcode Scanner can be great to bring around garage sales to compare prices online. Any eBay resellers out there? This android application is right up your alley.

Seek Droid
Are you the type of person that is losing their phone a lot? Then the Seek Droid application might be perfect for you. If you lose your phone, all you need to do is go online and you will be able to locate where your phone is. In addition if you think your phone was stolen, you can lock it out and or white its memory of any sensitive information you might have.

Weather Channel
This is a perfect app for the outdoors man. With the weather Channel droid application, you can check the current weather forecast and conditions of any location, at any time. On a bike ride and worried about some dark clouds? Check the forecast and find out whether they are just for show or if you should be finding cover.

It seems you can’t walk down the street these days without hearing something new about this “Google Android”. For the less technically savvy of you out there however, all of this talk might have melted into Charlie Brown Wa Wa’s. This article will explain exactly what this Google android is, what it’s good for, and how it’s different from the rest of the stuff out there. Google Android is an operating system or software platform. What I mean by that, is that android is a sort of base program, on top of which the other programs that you actually use are run upon. In this sense, the operating system can affect every aspect of a devices function, so it is very important to choose a good one. Android is somewhat of a newcomer to the mobile phone operating system market, so one might question why android is the best option. Android’s biggest advantage is that its development is open source. What I mean by that is that anyone can take a look at the source code for android apps and anyone can modify said source code. The implication of this is that you have an entire community of people developing and improving the operating system instead of restricting access and input to a small group of professional designers. This means that apps work better, are better tailored to actual real world needs, and that any flaws are quickly updated. It’s pretty easy to see why people like open source development so much!

If you’ve been reading closely, you should know by now that Google android is a mobile phone operating system that has a wide variety of uses and uses open source development. Basically if you want your smart phone to do damn near anything and wanted to work on a regular basis (unlike professionally/closed source developed apps and O.S.’s) then Google android is probably the operating system for you!
